Meet the defenders

B-Cell, form 1 of 3

B-Cell

Rapid single-target

Fires homing antibodies that lock onto pathogens. Cheap, reliable, and the backbone of any immune line. Max level fires twin antibodies.

How a defense plays

  1. The Body Map screen with the Hepatic Throne outpost selected and a loadout of six defenders

Pick an outpost on the Body Map

The campaign runs through the body, from the first infection to the lungs and the liver. Each outpost has its own germs, its own trail and its own trick.

  2. A macrophage selected on the field, offering a choice between two final forms

    Drag defenders onto the cell

Place immune cells beside the trails, spend ATP to evolve them, and choose a final form for each one: harder hits, wider reach or a crippling slow.

  3. A boss fight with the field turning red as a giant capsid releases smaller viruses

    Hold out against the boss

Every outpost ends with a boss that fights back. Some split, some heal their swarm, some infect your strongest defender until you tap it to purge.

Germs

Thirty-one kinds of invader, from a single loose coccus to the Bile Leviathan. Many come back as tougher strains, and some learn to shrug off the defender you lean on most.

Viruses4
  • Spikecapsid

A twenty-faced protein shell crowned with sticky receptor spikes. Common, steady and relentless.

  • Strider Phage

A spindly injector that skitters on six tail fibres. Fragile, but very fast.

  • Crownshield

An enveloped virus wrapped in a shimmering protein shield. The shield soaks up damage before the virus itself takes any.

  • Hepa Virion

A ghostly enveloped virus that fades from sight. Only Dendritic fields, traps and splash reliably catch it.

Bacteria8
  • Rodlock Bacillus

A rod-shaped brute wrapped in a thick capsule. Its cell wall shrugs off weak hits (armor 3).

  • Grapeclump

A bunch of cocci glued together. Burst it and three loose cocci tumble out.

  • Loose Coccus

A single spherical cell freed from a cluster. Small, quick and annoying.

  • Corkscrew

A helical swimmer that drills through cytoplasm at alarming speed.

  • Biofilm Mender

A slimy colony that pulses repair signals, healing every invader around it. Take it out first.

  • Diplococcus

Twin lancet cocci in a slick capsule that soaks up the first hits. Pop the pair and both halves tumble on.

  • Tuber Rod

A slow rod in a thick waxy coat. Armored, and it knits itself back together when left alone.

  • Toxin Carrier

A swollen cell leaking toxins. Defenders near it fire 40% slower, and it bursts into fumes when destroyed.

Fungi and parasites4
  • Budspore Yeast

A slow, armored fungal cell that keeps budding off spores as it travels. Kill it early or drown in spores.

  • Drift Spore

A tiny fungal spore shed by yeasts. Weak alone, dangerous in clouds.

  • Aerospore

A winged spore carried on the airway currents. Every few seconds it catches the air and leaps ahead along the trail.

  • Fluke Larva

A tiny fork-tailed larva that swims fast in swarms. Weak alone.

Lieutenant bosses12
  • Capsid Colossus

A swollen capsid packed with viral copies. Crack its shell and the copies spill out.

  • Engulfer Amoeba

A colossal shapeshifting protist. Heavily armored; when wounded it ruptures and releases the viruses it swallowed.

  • Hydra Colony

A sprawling biofilm mat studded with rods. When it finally tears apart, its embedded bacilli crawl free.

  • Sporemother

An ancient yeast bloom, armored and endlessly budding. It sheds spores every couple of seconds.

  • Gale Spore Queen

A towering aerospore that rides the updrafts and releases a stream of winged spores.

  • Diplo Twins

A giant capsule-wrapped pair. Its capsule is a shield of its own, and it bursts into four diplococci when destroyed.

  • Waxen Tuber

A massive waxy rod. Heavily armored and regenerating; keep the pressure on.

  • Corkscrew Matriarch

A great cloaked corkscrew that drills unseen and releases a brood of spirochetes.

  • Carrier Prime

A bloated toxin carrier whose fumes reach far. Defenders near it fire slower, and it bursts into fumes.

  • Larva Broodmother

A swollen fluke larva that never stops releasing more of its kind.

  • Hepa Phantom

A shielded, cloaked giant virion that hijacks your strongest defender.

  • Crownshield Regent

An enormous crownshield wrapped in layer upon layer of protein shield.

Warlords3
  • Prime Phage

The swarm's queen: a towering golden phage that injects fresh striders into the cell every few seconds.

  • Bronchial Wyrm

The airway serpent. It exhales gales that hurl invaders forward, and tears into two halves when badly wounded.

  • Bile Leviathan

A colossal liver fluke. It floods the area with bile that sickens defenders, and sheds larvae as it goes.

The Microbe Codex fills in as you meet each germ.

What it costs

$0 to play

Every outpost, every defender and every boss. Each defense uses one energy; you hold up to five, one refills every 20 minutes, and a short video ad gives you two more. A video ad also plays when a defense ends.

One purchase in the game menu and energy never runs out: start as many defenses in a row as you like. It is tied to your Google account, so it comes back if you reinstall. Ads at the end of a defense still play.

Questions

Is Cytoguard free?

Yes. The whole game is free and supported by ads. There is one optional purchase, Unlimited Energy, for people who want to play without waiting for energy to refill.

Do I need an account or an internet connection?

No account, no sign-in. The game itself plays offline; ads and the in-game store need a connection.

What data does the game collect?

We don't collect your personal information, and your progress stays on your phone. The ads come from Google AdMob, which uses your device's advertising ID. The privacy policy has the details.

How do I change my ad privacy choices?

If you were asked for consent when you first opened the game, a Privacy button in the main menu lets you change your answer at any time. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings.

I bought Unlimited Energy. Will I keep it on a new phone?

Yes. Install Cytoguard with the same Google account and open it; Google Play restores the purchase on its own.

Will my progress move to a new phone?

Progress is saved on the phone, not on a server. If your phone backs up app data to your Google account, Android may restore it when you set up the new phone; otherwise the campaign starts fresh.

Which phones does it run on?

64-bit Android phones running Android 7.1 or newer. The game is played in portrait, one-handed.

Is there an iPhone version?

Not right now. Cytoguard is coming to Google Play first.
